D Magazine Best Lawyers Under 40 - Chase Potter

If you find yourself in “bet the company” litigation, you need a lawyer who is willing and able to (i) work tirelessly to understand the ins-and-outs of your business, including the people and governing documents that made your company successful in the first place; (ii) identify and exploit the weaknesses in your opponent’s case; and (iii) play three-dimensional chess while the other side is playing checkers. Chase Potter is that lawyer.

Many lawyers approach every lawsuit the same. They use and implement a familiar playbook. They take the “conventional” or “CYA” approach. Lawyers do this because they want to avoid criticism in the event of an unfavorable result. They end up paralyzed by fear. Not Chase. He learned early in his law career to tailor strategy to every case and client. He believes in the maxim: “no risk, no reward.” Of course, each client has its own risk profile and Chase ensures the client is fully onboard with any key case decisions.

Over the years, Chase has found that using a “paint by numbers” strategy in complex business litigation simply doesn’t work – not if the goal is a total and complete victory. And that is always Chase’s goal.

Chase doesn’t come from a family of lawyers. He was raised in a small town in East Texas by hard-working parents who taught him that, no matter how difficult the challenge or opponent, there’s one thing you can always control – how hard you’re willing to work. Chase is a successful trial lawyer because he is simply unwilling to be outworked by the other side. There is no substitute for an unmatched work ethic and willingness to bear down and compete. Chase first developed a love for competition on the baseball field. Now, he loves competing – and winning – in the courtroom.

The dedication, commitment, and grit displayed by Chase’s entrepreneur clients inspired Chase to co-found Iacuone McAllister Potter, PLLC (IMcP) with Josh and Greg, ( who both share Chase’s vision for how a successful trial firm should operate). Chase utilizes his personal experience as a business owner to better represent and serve his entrepreneur clients.

His experience in both a national law firm and a Dallas litigation specialist firm provided valuable lessons. He has been recognized and honored by various publications in the legal industry, including Super Lawyers (Texas Rising Star), Best Lawyers (Ones to Watch in America), and D Magazine (Best Lawyers Under 40). Chase was also elected to the Patrick E. Higginbotham American Inn of Court.

Chase met and fell hard for his wife Lydia when they were in high school. Chase and Lydia now have 5 children. Chase has also coached his sons in baseball, basketball, and football. Most of all, Chase and Lydia are devoted to their faith and strive to teach their children how to serve others well.

With his busy law practice and family life, Chase is no stranger to an all-nighter. You can rest assured that Chase is more than willing to burn the midnight oil and put in the necessary work to get the job done.
